Unit 1 – Sentence Types

I’ve always had issues with consistency and could never seem to get anything done on time, constantly finding myself procrastinating. This year, though, was the first since high school that I actually finished reading a book! Granted, it was for class, but I completed it, so I’m proud of myself. I got a lot of genuine practice in this year and genuinely started learning how to read effectively. My main goal this year was simply to do better than last, and I believe it’s safe to say I reached it. I wanted to be more involved and active in my classes and finally find a love for learning. Going into college this semester, I didn’t even know what a basic noun, adjective, or verb was. It makes me question if anyone else struggled this much with foundational grammar concepts as well in college? It makes me feel so out of place, especially as a (current) English major. It’s been the most difficult subject for me overall, and I’ve learned a ton about it this semester. Especially, how can I organize my time with my subjects better now that I know how to use it?

For the next session, I know I need a structured approach. I’ve learned to always proofread my essays for basic errors before submitting. Which I found out to be one of the root causes to my academic failures. The progress I’ve made this year with time utilization proves to myself that I can change old habits and truly commit to learning hard concepts. I’m adding study blocks on my calendar every week as well to help with this. I’m still asking myself, will I maintain this level of involvement into the spring semester ? I hope what I’ve learned this year sticks with me, and I’ll push myself to do so. I learned to do my assignments on time without (as much) struggle. This concept has helped me, and believe has readied me for the academic challenges I may face during the spring semester. My improved reading skills will make every subject feel more manageable.
